Gaines Mill represented Jackson's only major action during the Seven Days Battle. Jackson's force on the far left of the Confederate line engaged Sykes Division of Porter's (V) Corps. Jackson's force was 14,900 with 2,392 lost; Sykes had 4,600 and lost 1,244. The Confederate attack succeeded in forcing the union line back.
